■NOVEL GROUNDS OF APPEAL. PRISONER FOR SEDITIOUS UTTERANCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ohristchurch, April 4Before the Military Service Board today Edward Reginald Williams claimed that he was not a reservist as at the time he was drawn in the ballot he was undergoing a sentence of a year's imprisonment on charges of seditious utterances. The appeal was allowed, the chairman remarking that the appellant could be called up again in the ballot and he hoped that would happen soon.
WEST COAST MINERS. FEEBLE INTEREST IN STRIKE. Wellington, April 4. Private information from the West Coast states that the meeting of coalminers on Btrike intended to he held last night was so sparsely attended that no business was done. It is proposed to hold another meeting on Saturday. CONSERVING WHITE PINE. Wellington, Last Night. The National Efficiency Board to-4sy met representatives of the. dairy produce, sawmilling and allied industries and discussed the question of conserving white pine timber for the dairy industry. A committee was set up to go into the matter in more detail. The board will report in due course.
