RESPONSE TO APPEAL FOR MENMelbourne, April 2. Casualties to date total 232,324, ineluding 43,475 dead, wounded, and 68,414 sick. All the Ministers are uniting in an effort to raise recruits in response to Mr. Lloyd George's appeal. The Director of Recruiting states that the total enlistments during the past three months were 0000. 1 WAR EXPENDITURE. Sydney, April 2. Speaking at Bendigo, Mr. Watt said that Australia this year would spend £97,000,000 in war expenditure, £13,000,000 of which would come out of revenue, the remainder being raised by loan. The war expenditure represented 5 per cent, yearly of the total wealthI POST-WAR TRADE SCHEME. Sydney, April 2. The Commercial Travellers' Association, at the inter-State conference, resolved to ask the Government to consult the association regarding the appointment of a representative in connection with any post-war trade scheme, and that all responsible positions in the various undertakings arising therefrom should be filled by commercial men with the requisite knowledge and experience. Another resolution favored the encouragement of members to learn fofeign languages.
