TMASAH CHA3SHC6SBHHP -MEIESiS.: SECOND DAY'S PfiAV The Taranaki golf championship meeting was advanced a further stage yesterday on the New Plymouth Club's links at Waiwakaiho, and thfe semi-finals of the championship will 'be .played this morning and the final this afternoon, ajd these matches with the various handicap' events will conclude the tournament.

Tlie weather yesterday was fine, .broken by one heavy shower in the morning, which did little more than discomfort the players, for the course played well throughout the day. Chief interest ■was centred on the second and third rounds of >thc championship, which were played in the morning and afternoon respectively. Sixteen players qualified ou Saturday, and they were drawn for matefli play on, the second round, in which some close game 3 were played. Of the local players only F. S. Johns and F. C. Newenham retained their places after the second round. Johns, by consistent play (85 both morning and afternoon), defeated W. Seifert in the mbrning and L. Seifert in the afternoon, and is drawn to meet D. Pryde, of Feilding, in the semi-finals to-morrow morning. The other players left in are R. L. D., Kidston, of Wellington, who won by default from Gpiesney, of Wellington, in the morning, and defeated F. W. Seifert, of Hamilton, in the afternoon, and D. Prydp, who has been playing very consistently throughout the tournament, defeating W. El. Robertshaw in the morning and P. G. Hiewenham in the afternoon.

Players not interested in the championship were provided with an interesting day's golf, and it is some satisfaction to the local club to see two of its members figuring amongst the winners. In the morning a bogey match was played and won by W. H. Wood with 3 down. "The Medal Handicap in the afternoon resulted in a tie between R. T. McQuade and A. A. Stewart, of Eltham, with 83 nett- The ladies' medal handicap was won by Miss Pearson, of Miramar, with a nett score of 86, the next best being Miss E. Gilbert, of Witiora, with 88 nett.

To-day, for the men, a bogey match will be played in the morning and a pairs best ball match in the afternoon; whilst the ladies will hold a bogey match, commencing at 11 a.m. Chief interest will, of course, be centred in the semi-finals and final of the championship, and whichever pair succeed in getting into the final should provide some very interesting golf for the numerous spectators who will undoubtedly follow the match. At tie conclusion of the afternoon's play the prizes will be distributed and the tournament of 1918 brought to a conclusion. ceUmpionship.
