THE EMPIRE, EMMY WEIILKX IX "THE TRAIL ai 1 THE .SHADOW,*' The popular little Metro star Emmy Wehicn will appear at the Empire toliig'ht and Saturday night in a delightful Metro wonderplay, "The Trail of The Shadow." This little lady is exceedingly popular, and is becoming more so with eiwh production. Miss Wchlcn lias not had a failure, and there is no question that in this picture she scores more emphatically than ever before. "The Trail of The Shadow" is a vivid romantic Western story, contrasting the life of desert and mountain with high society life of the great cities. A girl who supports hej-self is loved by a wealthy young Easterner, who is expected to make a brilliant match. While living alone in the mountains' she is suddenly called upon to give aid to a fugitive from injustice who pretends to be wounded .. He repays her generosity in the most cowardly way. Believing herself the victim of a great wrong, she refuses to marry the man she loves. He however discovers her real truth and purity and justice is dealt in a magnificent way. The supports include a Topical Gazette, a humorous comedy, and the fourth episode of the fascinating circus serial "Peg 0' the Ring." EVERYBODY'S TO-NIGHT. ALICE BRADY AND MONTAGUE LOVE IN "BOUGHT AND PAID FOR." "Bought and Paid For," the drama of mercenary marriage, is the attraction at Everybody's theatre to-night. The film, which is a "World" production, with Miss Alice Brady and Mr- Montague Love in the principal roles, is based on the highly successful stage play of the same name, in which Miss Muriel Starr gained such a success both in Australia and New Zealand some time ago. The action of the piece abounds in dramatic situations. The wife, who li!tis been her wealthy husband's typist, soon finds that he is a slave to liquor, and Miss Brady admirably portrays her anguish at the discovery, her steadily greater loathing for the man who boasts that he has bougtit her, and that she is only one of his chattels. The development of the tragic union is shown unsparingly, and the portrait of the vicious husband is an excellent, if unattractive one. The supporting pictures include the first of a series of the famous "Bairnsf a ther's War Cartoon*' the "flaumont Graphic" and a Keystone comedy "A One Night Stand."
