LIMITING PRODUCTION.
MR. MASSKY'S WA'HXIXU. (From Our Own Correspondent). Wellington. .March 2?. The warning Hint the I'riiiic Minister has addressed io (lie, coal-miners is intended to bo taken seriously. The reasons assigned by the miners for the stoppages that have been so frequent of late may or may not be genuine; bnt in any rase the effect of the stoppages is to limit production to an extent that threatens industry and embarrasses the fiovernment in the conduct of vital cperatons. The stoppages have the same result as the slow strike that was operated at the mines some time a<i't. The Government has decided that it will and must take action under the war regulations if the present conditions are continued in the coal districts. What the result would be. of the arrest of certain union Icadc-rs remains to be seen. If the result would be a strike the .Government, it can be {lathered, is prepared to face it. A straight out and decisive fight is considered to be preferable. to continual stoppages on trivial grounds.
