HAIG CALLS ON GENERALS TO CRUSH JT. i Aw. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Reut*rV Received March 25, 5.5 p.m. London, March 24. The Press Bureau reports: Sir Douglas Haig on the 21st telegraphed to generals of the Third and Fifth congratulating their troops on their splendid defence, and saying he relied on their continued steadfastness and valor, to crush this new attack, and with it' the enemy's last hope of success. ENEMY SURPRISE ATTACKS*; ARRESTED BY THE FRENCH. L Received March 25, 5.5 p.m. London, March- 24. A French communique states: After a violent bombardment, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted surprise attacks south of Jastincourt. Somewhat lively, artillorying is proceeding in the regions/ of the Bois le Pietrc, in the Vosges, and; near La Fondnclle and Hartmanns WciK erkopf. A later French communique states? There is intermittent activity north of? Chemin des Dames, and occasionally vio* lent duels in the Champagne heights, tq 'he right of the Mouse, and between Caw, ' riercs Wood, Bezonvaux and Hartmanns> Weilerkopf.
