TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Socioty was held on Saturday. Mr. J. S. Connett presided, ami there were present: Messrs \V. B. Grant, A. T. Moore, G. Colson, W. Hall. 11. Benton, C. Dobson, J. 11. Allan, 0. Fairbrother, X. llill, A. Lister, S. Topliss, R. H. Pigott, 11. C. Sampson, li. Ilonevfield, Eov Gilbert, W. McKenzie, and C. W. Ruebe. It was decided to thank the Taranaki Jockoy Club for their donation of a number board, which the society hoped would be put into use at next year's show. Letters of thanks wore Ordered to bo sent to Mr. W. Stanley, Messrs Amburv Bros., and Mr- J. H. Sellars for their donations, and also to the Citizens' Band for refunding £7 of tlieir fee for playing at the.show, as a donation to the society. Thanks was also expressed (.0 the Taranaki Farmers' Meat Company for thoir donation of ten guineas for grazing at the. society's grounds, and to the judges who had donated their expenses to the society. Letters of appreciation were ordered to be sent to the rtai ionmaster at New Plymouth for the excellent arrangements made in connection with the unloading and loading of stock at Smart Road, and to Mr. Guthrie, of the Railway Department, for the manner in which he superintended the operations. i Hie selection of medals ,for the 191S
autumn show left to Messrs Connett ami Grunt.' Votes of thanks wore also passed, with acclamation, to the following gentlemen for services rendered in connection with the sliow: Messrs G. Colson, •T. Corbett, C. Colson, 13. Sampson, Kibbv, Lock, Xops, X. King, Uageuson, Hoby, and Fox, for green feed and paddocking; Messrs Luxton and Jnckiion, for straw; Mr. Lister, for supplying broom for the jumps; Mr. T. Sampson, for cut firewood; Jlr. W. Jury, for measuring; and to Mi'. Stanley, secretary of the Stratford A. and P. Society, for his assistance iu securing entries for the showThe chairman then moved a vote of thank.? and appreciation to the ladies' committee for so successfully managing the catering arrangements for the show. The motion ivas' seconded by Hr. Grant and carried with acclamation.
Sir William Fraser, Minister for Public Works, when at HawCne. referred to the speeding-up of railway construction from Kftikohe to Okaihau. The matter was brought under his notice !>y a deputation from the Bay of Islands County Council. Sir William said the Slavs wore now all registered and willing to work, but he wished to find where to place the men. He was not in favor of sending tliem far from where they had settled. If the council wanted any men for county works, they should indicate their wants to 11m engineer. The chairman. Mr Blmulell said thov had passed a motion nzainst, employing them, as the settlers objected. Sir William then advised the council to rescind the resolution against employing Slaw before they asked liiin to put on more men.
