PRACTICALLY EXTINGUISHED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Yesterday. . The mine timbers were particularly dry, and the tire spread rapidly along the level and up two timbered rises in the vicinity. The fire was checked within a few hours of the outbreak. The men on the shift fought the fire gallantly throughout the night, and the fire was confined to a small area. Wailii, Last Night. The fire at the Wailii mine has been practically extinguished, though it is probable that the timbers in a small area affected will continue to smoulder for some days. A thorough examination was made to-day of the affected area. ■lt is expected that underground work will be resumed on Monday
