A BIG DRAMATIC MASTER PLAY. "JOHN GLAYDE'S HONOR.'' One of the big dramatic play successes j the Frohman Company handled was ( "John Glayde's Honor," which held the j record for the number of companies I simultaneously playing the drama in the j | various American States. This success on the legitimate stage emboldened the company to produce the drama as a photo-play, and the result was 'to make a perfect five-reel feature, which was shown for the first, time in "New Plymouth at the Empire theatre last night. Miss Mary Lawton and Aubrey Smith, two of America's stage favorites, play the leading parts in this urama, which greatly concerns the fortunes of an American capitalist. Many attempts are made on the capitalist's wealth, and great efforts are made to oust him from til;- supremacy of the world of finance. Failing in their endeavors, the schemers try to undermine him in the affections of his wife. Only after many bitter scenes and miserable moments are the clouds lifted, and the silver lining ofi faith acd love shown clear and bright, j!
Other pictures include the third episode of '''Adventures of Peg 0' the Ring," a laughable two reel comedy "The Stolen Booking." and the "Co-operative Weekly." The full programme will be repeated to-night. MADGE EVANS IN "THE CORNER GROCER." A quaint contrast is offered by the two leading characters in "The Corner Grocer," the World Film drama screened to a packed house ut Everybody's last night. Law Fields plays the old money-making but kind hearted merchant to the life, while Madge Evans is adorable as t,hc little orphan who is adopted by the old man, and eventually brings him happiness. The story is adapted from the play which ran for no less than three years in New and is a melodrama of the really human type. The grocer, through natural shrewdness, amasses a fortune, and sends bis son to college. When the boy gets back he has grown too lofty for any such commonplace business, and soon is involved with a discreditable adJ venturess. He forges, his father's name, ruins him, and is charged with the . murder of the woman's accomplice. The I little orphan girl, now grown up, proves a tower of strength to the old folks in their bitter trouble, and eventually she manages to retrieve the boy from disgrace. The story has a line ending, j amidst particularly beautiful surround- [ ings. "The Corner Grocer" will be screened for the last time to-night. i
