Hope stated that the :K:JC officers and men comprising the Ktit garrison had not been heard of since General Tovvnshend's surrender. The authorities state it is practically certain all had died during the hundreds of miles march across the desert, where no provision had been made /or food, shelter, or medical treatment. All were very wak owing to their privations during the siege, many suffering from dysentciy. Doubtless these fell out of the march and died by the wayside. About a fifth ef the forcewas British.
