FARM AND DAIRY.
DAIRY PRODUCE. BIG ACCUMULATIONS FOR SHIPMENT.
A statement on the sliij, neut. of daity. produce was made- by the Prime Minister on Friday. "The'season has been a good one and the supply of dairy produce Ims kept ■ iji wonderfully well," said Mr. Massey. "Ilie Government are, however, alive to the necessity of providing for winter requirements and a sufficient quantity will be kept in New Zealand for that purpose, the surplus going to the Imperial Government. The butter intended for local supply must be kept separate from the Imperial butter as the British Food Controller advances 00 per cent of the value of the latter to the producers, the balance being paid on shipment. As it has turned out it was very fortunate for all concerned that the present arrangement with the Food Onctroller was made, otherwise owing tn the shortage of shipping butter would have been in the same position as tallow and flax and other commodities not purchased by the Imperial Government, and which are stored up in very large quantities in the different centres of the Dominion. For this season, up to the end of February, 1G.590 tons of butter had been produced, which, at the prices arranged for, would amount t' 1 ." >4 millions sterling "
