RED TRIANGLE APPEAL.

Throughout Xew Zealand a special effort is being made to raise at least £lUo,lWi! for the funds of the- Y.M.C.A- The appeal is one that must commend itself to every man and woman, whether they liave sons at the front or not, for the money will be spent in .the- best of all causes—that of humanity. The war work of the Y.M.C.A. is, or should be, well known all over the world, and it is absolutely all embracing, for it treats all alike without reference to nationality or creed. To describe the work of the association would take a fair sized volume, 'but, briefly stated, it cares for the soldiers in camp, at the front, on furlough, when sick or suffering; it is their friend in need, always at hand in tents, canteens, and any place where soldiers are quartered ,and so- are the reading and writing conveniences, the friendly advice (if asked or needed): . In a thousand and one things the Association is lightening tlio terrible ordeals through which the men pass, cheering the homesick lads and keeping them in touch with their (kith and kin, providing the men with recreation, and being all in all to them. This grand work entails enormous expenditure, and who will grudge their mite towards such noble efforts? Not a day passes without many warm-hearted tributes being paid to the Y.M.C.A. Today the people of Taranaki are to exhibit their sympathy with and practical support to this great movement, and considering the nature of the work, together with the pressing need for the money to defray the expenses, it may confidently be expected .that the responso to the Triangle appear will he generous and spontaneous as well as being worthy of the town and district. If everyone contributes to the best of his or her ability the work of the Association will be the means of causing many blessings for those who r.re fighting for the Empire, humanity, and the cause of democracy. Every penny raised will he carefully and judiciously spout.
