THE DRINK BILL.
OVERBURDENING THE NATION. Reuter Service. Received iArch 14, 1 a.m. London, March 13. In the House of Commons, in a discussion on the national finance, Mr. L. Jones (Labor) stated that in 1917 the Drink Bill was £259,000,000. The latest figures would probably reach £270,000,000. This expenditure was overburdening the nation. He urged the imitation of the Canadian and American restrictions.
Mr. J. R. Clynes (Labor) stated that the materials used in the production of beer were greatly overestimated. Only three per cent, consisted of the nation's fond.

In pursuance of its new policy the Admiralty has selected fifty warrant officers for promotion to lieutenants and further promotions are intended.
