DESERT GOLD'S DEFEAT. STAMINA OPEN TO DOUBT. Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. Received March 12, 5.50 p.m. Sydney, March 12. Desert Gold's defeat in tlie King's Plate is attributed to the colossal task of making her own pace against a solid Stayer like Wallace Isinglass. No other two mile weiglit-for-age race was ever at such a pace. Desert Gold's stamina was open to doubt. Her form suggests that a mile and a half is her best distance. When Cetigne's owner decided to eontest the Lloyd Stakes he determined that patriotic funds should not suffer in the event of ijetigne beating Desert Gold! The latter did not compete, but Mr. Stirton decided to contribute half the stake to the Red Cross. WAIMATE TROTS. After declaration of final forfeits the following remain in the Taranaki Futurity Stakes, to be run on. Ist April next: Wee Bell, Lady Esma, Moon Drift, Norwood, Queen Chimes, Tattsy Dillon, Molly Chimes, Normica Heir, Leewood, b.g. 'by Uotomanuka—Cloosie, b.f. by Galinda—Alice Wood, ch.c. by Perolta— Jersey mare, ch.f. by Proud Child—i Fatality.
