OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Harbor Board was hold on Wednesday. Present: Messrs T. P. Hughson (chairman), S. Campbell, J. Conaglen, S. M. Corniah. The board had arranged with Mr. C. A- Wilkinson, M-r, to interview Mr. Cave (proprietor of the Opunake jetty) to ascertain his intentions regarding repairs to the wharf. It wus decided that the board meet Messrs Cave and Wilkinson, the members expressing an opinion that they required some definite decision from Mr. Cave, and that the board is agreeable to purchase, at a reasonable valuation, Mr. Cave's interest in the jetty; furthermore, the' board js prepared to cancel Mr. Cave's license if he is not prepared | to carry out the terms embraced therein, The board made preliminary arrangements with the bank to obtain an overdraft up to ,-£SOO in anticipation of the board becoming the purchasers of Mr. Cave's interest in the wharf, also for providing for outlay in repairs to same. •\t a meeting of the Egmont Coursing Club on Saturday evening it was decided to make an effort to run a coursing meeting for a stake of £SO, to be called the Taranaki Stake, and a Kate for £•2 O. the total amount for rnnners-up and third and fourth dogs aggregating £IOO 10s. Convassers were appointed to canvass for support and report sit a further meeting. Mr. Woo/ford was reelected chairman and Mr. Evetts reelected secretary. The schools' combined picnic (Eltham Road ami Opunake Methodist Sunday School) took place at Kgaere on Saturday. A large crowd made the journey.
