RETURNED SOLDIERS AND PARTY POLITICS.
A LIVELY MEETING, (Our Special Correspondent). Wellington, March 9. Members of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association met to-night to discuss incidents connected with the recent by-election, when one of the candidates wa9 announced as having the support of the returned soldiers. The meeting was a fairly lively one, but the feeling of the big majority of,members evidently was strongly against allowing the Association to mix in party politics, and a motion upholding the non-political principle and supporting the action of the executive in asserting this principle during the by-election campaign was carried without dissent. Colonel Josephs made one of the effective speeches. He said that if the returned soldiers' organisations committed themselves to the support of particular candidates and parties, they would wreck themselves speedily and completely. The returned soldiers muet act politically as individuals, though it might prove sound policy for the organisations, at a general election, to lay down principles which the soldiers would like candidates to adopt.
