THE ENEMY WITHIN.
PLOT TO DESTROY THE EMPIRE. Mr. T. Henley, M.L.A., who is engaged in k patriotic war work in England, has written to Mr. J. H. Wise, M.L.A., Sydney, a long letter from which the following is taken:— "Prussian military autocracy, with its back against the wall, is bound to die hard, but it must be done to death, or life for freedom-loving Britons will not be worth living. Sometimes I fancy 3 see in the hellish of Hun methods and prodigal waste of human life by German generals a sign of deathlike violence expending itself in the throes of a dying agony. I hope it is so. j Depend upon it, the tighter we grip the vitals of the vicious brutes and barbarous instigators and perpetrators of ten thousand infamies, the more terrible will be the struggle, and more frightful will Jiis methods become. The Hohenzollcrns are in strong alliance with the secret organisations that are known to be working foj- the downfall of the British Empire, and the destruction of free democratic institutions. Boloism in various ■forms draws its life blood from many Sources, and thrives on the free soil of our own country. We can beat the German every time on the battlefield, but the real enemy within the gate must be dealt with. They are clothed in many guises; they are fighting Germany's batUes quite as desperately, though not even as honorably, as the Huns on the proclaimed battlefield. It was not the force of arms that defeated Russia; or later caused the voluntary surrender of so many Italians. What was it, then? Look around. Make close observations of the enemy at home as well as abVoad. Our boys must not give their lives in vain; this must be a war to the dead finish; the tyrannical forces of ancient autocracy must be dealt with now. Whenever we fmd known secret seed beds of national disloyalty they should be torn up at once."
