SOLDIERS' WIVES.
TO BE TREATED IN FREE PUBLIC HOSPITAL. By Telegraph— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Hon. G. W. Russell stated to-day that it had been under consideration fo'r some time whether free hospital treatment should, bo given to wives of soldiers on active service. He said it had been the rule for some time to allow wives of soldiers free admission to the State maternity homes, and in the concessions granted to wives of soldiers by the Financial Assistance Board, provision is made for assistance in the case of serious surgical operations being 'required. Cabinet has now npproved of the proposal that, under proper safeguards, of which due notice will be given by (he Minister for Hosnitals to the various hospital boards, wives of soldiers on active service may be treated free in public hospitals.
