The annual report of the Prisons Department shows that the number of prisoners received in 1917, exclusive of inebriates, was 8109, the lowest on record. FEDERAL SHIPPING LINE. Melbourne, March 7. STRHvE AT BROKEN HILL. Sydney, March 7. A strike at the Central and Junction Mines at Broken Hill has rendered 800 men idle.
