PATRIOTIC WORK.

NEW PLYMOUTH WOMEN'S COMMITTEE. I ' A further donation of £1 10s from the Omata Sewing Guild per Mrs, Hughes bos been received with thanks for the Scottish Women's Hospital Fund. The boxes for books for soldiers placed in Devon street are provintr a great success. The Mayoress wishes to thank all kind donors, also the friend who left a very nice parcel of music at Mr. C. E. Baker's. ' In our columns of Monday, our Eltham correspondent reported that Private Harry Andrews had received a share of a gift of £SO sent from New Plymouth. The money was forwarded by the New Plymouth Women's Patriotic Committee, and acknowledgments have been received from the O.C. N.Z. Stationary Hospital, telling us how much the gift was appreciated.

Writes the officer commanding the New Zealand Stationary Hospital in France: To Mrs. Burgess, Mayoress, New Plymouth.—Dear Madam,—l cannot let this opportunity pass without telling you how very materially your handsome donation of £2OO assisted us to make Christmas Day, 1917, a memorable one for patients and staff alike. As instructed, the gift was allocated, £SO to the matron and her staff, £SO to the chaplains, £SO for the personnel, and £SO for the hospital. Out of the £SO for personnel we made a gift in money to each n.c.o. and man in the unit, and they one and all appreciate your kindness in this connection. The £SO for the hospital was utilised in providing extras for the patients' Christmas dinner, and there were many in the 800 odd patients we have at the present time who said that it was the best Christmas Day they had spent. Each of the wards was decorated, and in all of them a Bet down dinner was provided. Despite the snow, and the inclement weather conditions, we all had a delightful day. We would like you to convey to the friends who subscribed to this gifi our appreciation of their kindness. With best wishes for lfllS. Yours vrtv sincerely,— - -- - EUGENE O'NEILTi, Lt.-Col. N.Z.M.C. .O.C. N.Z. Stationary Hospital.
