ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
A MAX DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Foxton, March 0. William Hamer, 28 years of age, a single man, son of Hamer, picture theatre proprietor, was drowned in the Manawatu river near the wharf last night, through the upsetting of a dinghy while endeavoring to pick up the anchor attached to a motor launch. His companion on the launch heard no cry from Hamer, and, owing to the darkness and the flood in the river, could not render any assistance. The body has not yet been recovered. * INCIDENT AT WAIHI BEACH, Waihi, March 4. A youth named W. Sadler, who went in to bathe at a dangerous spot at Waihi beach on Sunday afternoon, got into difficulties in the surf, and probably would have been carried out to sea and drowned but for the prompt rescue effected by Messrs. D. Walker and Munro with the life-saving reel. Mr. Munro donned the belt and swam out and grasped the boy, both being then drawn ashore. Other bathers who had attempted to reach Sadler had difficulty in regaining the shore.
