KAISER'S HATE OF LAWYERS.
UK. GERARD'S ANECDOTE. At the Lawyers' Club in Xew York on December 17, Mr Gerard, former American Ambassador at Merlin, told an anecdote illustrating the contempt which the Kaiser and the ruling classes entertain for lawyers. Mr. Gerard, who is himself a lawyer, and before he embraced a diplomatic career was a. Judge of the Supreme Court of New York, said that his position in Jtcrlin was greatly impaired by the fact that lie was a member of the legal profession. It was only when he mentioned to Junker acquaintances his former connections with the National Guard and his rank as a major, as well as the fact that he came from an old military family, that he secured any social prestige. In a notable interview the Kaiser look occasion to express to him his hatred and contempt for lawyers. After shaking his finger in my face (said Mr. Gerard) and telling 111 c that he would stand no nonsense from the United States after the war. he shouted: ''All the people who are opposed to me aTC lawyers. Lloyd George, Asquith, Poincave—they are all lawyers."
