PARK GYMKHANA.
TO-MORROW'S FETE. To-morrow afternoon the much-talked-of gmykhana in aid of funds for the improvement of Pukekura Park will take place. The object of the fete must appeal to old and young, as the ground* are such a popular result for residents and visitors alike, and the endeavor of the board to raise funds for an extensive scheme of improvement should meet with popular favor. An energetic committee of citizens was set up to co-oper-ate with the board in this (Undertaking, and the result is that an attractive programme of novel items has been arranged that should aliord an afternoon's enjoyment of an unusual kind. The motor events themselves will be of a unique character. A procession of decorated oars will leave the Melbourne eprner at 1 p.m., and proceed along Liardet street to the recreation ground, where there will be competitive events, including slow driving through obstacles for cars and motor cycles. A prize is also to be offered for the best decorated car. Children's sports will include bicycle races, boat fraees, canoe races and novelty events. There will also be swimming events in the lake. Afternoon tea will be available on the grounds, the arrangements in connection with that section of the fete being entirely in the hands of the Mayoress (Mrs. C. 11. Burgess) and a strong committee of ladies. The schools, including the Technical College. Girls' High and Chetwode Schools, will be in charge of the sweet stalls. In the evening an open-air concert will be given. The programme will include band selections by the Citizens' Band, vocal items by leveling local singers, and, as a novelty it mi which has not been heard in the optu air before in New Plymouth, selections on the Dells ,vilt be given by a gentleman who has achieved some considerable success in that direction. Admission to the fete will be: Adults, Is; children over 12 years, Cd. Admission to the concert will be Cd, children fret. The grounds at night will be brilliantly illuminate! Donations towards the afternoon tea may be left at the Woman's Patriotic Committee rooms to-day, or at the park to-morrow morning.
