LATE GENERAL MAUDE. A VICTIM OF INBRED COURTESY. Rcuter Service. Received March 5, 11 p.m. i London, March 5. The Ifouse of Commons unanimously adopted the grant of £25,000. to Lady Maude, after Mr. Lloyd George's glowing tribute to the late General Maude's services to the Empire. He mentioned that hj died a victim to the inbred courtesy of a fine character. He visited the plague-stricken area at the invitation of the inhabitants, who were anxious to welcome him for his many kindnesses, and, though he forbade his escort to eat or drink, he himself ran the risk rather than offend his hosts. There was cholera in the cup, and he died a few days after. He would always be remembered as one of the great figures of the war, not only for his achievements, but for his character. TANK WEEK. BIG SUBSCRIPTIONS. Raceived March 5, 10.25 p.m. London, March 5. The tank loan week has been inaugurated with much enthusiasm. Six tanks are operating in the various centres. The first, day's subscriptions include one of 2J millions, one of two millions, four of a million, and several half millions.
