SIDELIGHTS ON THE CZAR.
SPEECH BY THE LATE BRITISH AMBASSADOR. Received March "3, 5.5 p.m. London. March 2. At a dinner given in his honor, Sir George Buchanan, late Ambassador at Petrograd, said he could not yet make a full revelation of the thh'gs he had seen in Russia. It almost broke' his heart to think of them, lie told the Czar at the end of 11>1(1 that he had come to the parting of the ways, and must choose between the path leading to victory and that leading to a revolution- He chose the path of reaction, bul it was untrue to say the Czar was on the eve of abdication, or favored concluding a separate p»aee with Germany. The Czar was not i; traitor, and would never betray the Allies' cause. LITVINOFF'S TENANCY. AN INJUNCTION GRANTED. Aust. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Renter. Received March 3, 5.5 p.m. London, March 2. The 'solicitor for M. Litvinoff's landlord says that the most serious feature of M. Litvinoff's tenancy i.\ the constant procession visiting Litvinoff. The Court granted an interim injunction restraining M. Litvinoff's landlord from ejecting Litvinoff or denying him access to the Embassy. AGREEMENT WITH SWEDEN. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Reutev. The Morning Post's Stockholm correspondent" states that the tonnage agreement between Sweden and the Allies has been settled, whereby 75,A00 tens of Swedish shipping is placed nt the Allies' disposal and Sweden is permitted to import R4,000 tons of necessaries. MORE MEAT FOR 'MINERS. Received March 3, 5.5 p.m. London, March 1. In the House of Commons, Mr. Herbert •Samuel warned the Food Ministry that his mining constituents (North Riding of Yorkshire) were threatening to down tools if tliey were rationed on the London basis, which took no account of their occupation. Miners could not hew holes on vegetables. Mr. R. J. Clynes replied that the heavy workers would be allowed more me&t than other people.
