LEPPTERTON. (From Our Own Correspondent),. As a result of representations from i several ratepayers, the Waitara West ■ Road Board has decided to prosecute all owners of stray stock found on the ruads. under the Board's jurisdiction. To this end, the Board is advertising for a ran- . per. I have heard a considerable amount of discussion on the Board's action. Most . people strongly approve of it, especially those whose gardens, or' fences, have sufi fered in the past from stray stock. Some, however, consider that the' Board might, perhaps Jicense individuals to run stock on the roads during the daytime only. The argument in favor of this is that ! the crowth of weeds ,011 the roadside would be kept in check. It is doubtful, however, if the Board could legally grant permission to anyone to graze stock on public roads. A social to welcome home from the war Privates McGregor and Young was held in the Hall on Thursday last. A verv pleasant evening was passed, dances and songs being interspersed. Songs rrivon by Misses Jeffrey and Turn> bull and by several gentlemen singers. The music for the dances was provided l'v Miss B. Widdy, extras brin? played by Miss V. Harvey and Mr. Jeffreys. At a meeting of the school committee held 011 Tuesday last, it was decided to proceed with the improvements to the playground as soon as it was possible get labor to do so. A complimentary socinl is to be tendered Mr. and Mrs. \Y. Roberts one evening shortlv. At the time of writing I I'nderstand the date had not been definitely fixed. . Mr. Roberts has resitmcl liis position as manager of the local dnirv factory, and is leaving shortly on an extended and well-earned holiday. Du-ipg the fourteen years that Mr. Roberts has been in the employ of the Leppert.i Dairy Company he has given the ci'npanv faithful and ungrudgini sorv 1 .t. For several years past his butter has ceoved top grade, or second to top, at the Motnroa grading works, and this despite the fact that he was workm; in an out-of-date building. Apart from this, Mr. Roberts lias done good service as a member of the local school commit-t'--e, and of the patriotic committee. Both Mr. and Mrs. Roberts have been •- -v active members of the local Met hull u Church, and I understand it is the intention of the congregation to have a social gathering in their honor on their return irom their holiday. At present Mn Roberts is somewhat undecided as to hi* future movements, but we all hope that be and h's family will eventually settle down in T.epperton. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor have takyn un their residence on the Tikornnai read, near Waitara. Mr. John Cloke is making a go id recovery from the serious accident that befell hin some weeks a^o Mr Taylor, the new manaser of {he cheese factory, takes up his d'.ttic- 011 the first, of March. A meeting of the patriotic commit!ee is to be held 011 Wednesday evening next for the purpose of discussing wliat. form Lepperton's annual autumn cflYi.-t on behalf of patriotic funds is to take.
