SOME LURID PICTURES. London, Feb. 10. The Times' Petrograd correspondent says that extraordinary stories are coming from Kiel! describing the recent lighting between the lioUhcvik, Ukrainian and ( ossack forces, in whii-h over 2(X!0 were killed and !HHM> wounded. The lur!>' 1 picture includes street hatties, a bombardment from both banks of the Dneiper, and an artillery attack'm the Petchorsky Monastery, Bolshevik aeroplanes bombing it indiscriminately and simultaneously. The second time they were reinforced by six infantry regiments, two divisions of artillery and cavalA- from the southwest front. The artillery razed the wa'lls. of the IVtt-harsky Monastery, where the Ukrainians, Cossacks and Cadets resisted for three days. Then the Bolsheviks entered and made the garrison prisoners. The Ukrainians fought, in the centre of the town until their ammunition was exhausted, suffering severely, and then surrendered. Two days later detachment# of Ukrainians and Cdssacks, who had reformed in hidiiig, reopened violent- fire in ■\arious pars of tho town. During the two days' terror 100 resident*' were killed. The Bolsheviks' report states that the massacre reached its climax \>v a murderous Cossack 'bombardment on'the workers' quarter. Ultimately tho Ukrainians and Cossacks were driven out and took refuge in the Kievopetchera Monastry in the suburbs. They were usartillery, but were surrrLindcd on all sides. The Bolsheviks heavily defeated General Alexieff near Voron'esk and Alexielf retreated to Novocherkask. Cossacks are forcing miners at Tasanrog to supply coat exclu-iivelv to towns in the Don reaion, and railwav>nen refusing to handle coal are hcin" shot.
, GERMANS TO BE FOUGHT. New York, Feb. 19. The United Press learns that the Petrograd Foreign Office announces that Russia will fight the German invaders. DVIiJSK AND LUTSK TAKEN. London, Feb. 19. The Germans have captured Dvinsk and the Austrians have taken Lutsk. ENEMY OPERATIONS' IN BALTIC Stockholm, Feb- 19. A wireless message says that according to reports in the Swedish press Germany is preparing to land a Finnish battalion of the German army and othci forces in Finland. These operations are to be accompanied by naval action in the Baltic with landings also in the unoccupied parts of Livonia and Esthonia. SANGUINARY FIGHTING IN FINLAND. Stockholm, Feb. 19. A Helsingfors message reports that 15,000 Red Guards armed with rifles and machine-guns arrived in southern Finland from Petrograd. Several hundred White Guards have reached the Aaland Islands after crossing the ice. This caused further blood;, fighting with the Russians, who now refuse to leave unless the White Guardß also leave.
