A London cable reports that the Prince of Wales lock the oath and Lit seat in the House of Lords. There was an imposing ceremonial, the peers introducing him, wearing their robes and tlie collars of their Orders. The resignation of Sister E, Coutti as ward sister at the New Plymouth Hospital was accepted by the Hospital Hoard at its'meeting yesterday. Sister Coutti is on active service. in last night's casualty list appear* the name of Corporal Stan Hoby, bod of Mr. George Hoby, of Bel! Block. He was in the service of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand prior to enlistment, and was held in high esteem, Alexander Bell, M.A., lias been appointed secretary to the Education Department. Mr. Bell, who comes from South Canterbury, has had a varied experience in educational work, and for three years has held a high administrative position in the head office of the Department.— Press Association. Mr. Raynor, of Inglewood; lias received word that his son Hklter lias been killed in France. He had previously heard of another son being paralysed by a gunshot wound, and there are four others of the same family now fighting for their country. Miss Hogg, of the staff of the Stmtford District High School, retires on superannuation at the end of March. Miss Hogg has been at the Stratford school for twenty-six years, which. mu*t be somewhat of a record for long service at one school.—Post. At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board the resignation of the Rev. R. B, Gosnell as the Opunake representative was received, Mr Gosnell having gone on active service with the Y-11C.A. The resignation was accepted with regret, the chairman remarking that Mr. Gosnell gave promise of becoming a most useful member of the Board. The death occurred in a private hospital in Melbourne of Miss Florence Gleeson, prominently before the public as an actress for many years. Recently Miss Gleeson Jiad been seen chiefly in humorous character studies. Her last appearance in Melbourne was in' the character of a doctor's widow in "Penelope," t witli Miss Marie Tempest and Mr G. Browne. Mrs. Stafford, St. Albans, lias received word that her husband, Ma jot James Stafford, NIZ. Mounted [Brigade, has been awarded the D.8.0. for gallantry in the field of action. Major Stafford' left with the Main Body as captain of the Veterinary Corps, MZ.M.R-, and served at Gallipoii, and subsequently in Egypt and Palestine. About eighteen months ago he joined the Mounted Brigade, being then promoted to the ri.ik of major. Lefore leavinp New Zealand .Vsior Stafiord was one of Hi a Government veterinary surgeons in Christehureh, having come out from England to take up that position six years a §°- ■i ■ In the casualty list published yesterday, the following Taratiaki names appear: Died of wounds: W. M. Poarce (New Plymouth). Seriously ill: Corporal A. C. Rickelben (New Plymouth) and Corporal W. B. Williams (Hawera). Still seriously ill, slightly improved: H. E. Hill (New Plymouth). Not severe cases: S. .1. Armstrong and H. S. Farmer (Now Plymouth), M. M. Fennell (Opunake), W. J. Moffett (Hawera) and H. J. Hawkins (Bell Block).
