Atkinson (North Taranaki), H. L. Spratt (Returned Soldiers), F. W. Mills (Hawera), T. B. Crump (Eltham), J. F. Stevenson ? (Manaia). ■ CORRESPONDENCE. Plawcra Committee advised that inter- ) est on £OOOO call with the Hawera Bor- , ougli Council would be forwarded before ( March 31, and also stating that application should be made to Messrs A. Hunter and A; C. Pease for interest on amounts donated by the Moore Hunter . and J. F. Pease estates. The Egmont League notified having reconstituted the committee, and would be holding meetings monthly. The secretary reported that he had requested the league to appoint a delegate to the as- . sociation. The New Zealand Farmers' Union advised that Mr. A. E. Washer (viee-presi-1 dent) had been appointed delegate, vice Mr. R. Dunn (resigned): The Eltham Patriotic Committee forwarded three war loan certificates, each of £1 fnce value, donated to the' Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Application is being made to the Australian Government and Australia Day Fund regarding the pension due to the mother of an Australian soldier. 'lt was stated that the applicant had been a resident of Australia and New Zealand for about 12 years. These details had been forwarded to the secretary of the association, but no replies received. —The matter of assisting applicant in the meantime was left to the Stratford Committee. It was announced that a returned 'soldier was attending the Technical College, New Plymouth, and receiving instruction in engineering classes. With regard to State advances to discharged soldiers to assist them in acquiring freehold laud, and also to erect buildings and effect other improvements, also for acquiring dwellings, the secretary stated that lie thought in some cases the' Department was making advances up to 80 per cent, of the value. This was with regard to the soldier who desired an allotment in the town. A PITIABLE CASE. Some discussion took place on the case of a returned soldier who is now wandering round the country. Mr. Spratt (Hawera) stated that the man was wounded in the back, arm 9 and hand, and, through his wounds, at times became morbid and restless. The general opinion was that the man should be at a sanatorium, and receive medical attention. Mr. Atkinson said the man should not be allowed to roam round the country. Later on, in May and June, the weather would be very severe. SECRETARY'S REPORT. The bank balance current account as at February 12 was €570 7s fld; Post Office Savings Bank as at January 31, £12,302 ' 10s 2d; interest to December 31, amounting to £245 7s lOd has been added. Re loan of £SOOO to Stratford Borough Council.—Stratford Borough Council will take up £2500 at 54 per cent, as from March 1, 1918. | RECEIPTS ACKNOWLEDGED. Applicant possessed good business ability, and in his (applicant's) letter expressed his confidence to make a success of the business, offering to pay back at,, the rate of £IOO per annum. / Mr. Atkinson supported an application , for a grant of £3OO made to allow the purchase of a hairdressing and tobacconist business. The soldier had lost his i right arm, was thoroughly honest, and " anxious to get on. The father of the ' applicant was prepared to act as guarantor. A letter was read from the ap- ; ■ plicant stating that he was prepared to i pay £lO per month. Mr. Atkinson then proposed that the sum be advanced on terms, interest to be charged at 3J perji cent.—Agreed to.
