SUCCESSFUL AIR FIGHTING. FRENCH REPEL ATTACKS. 1 London, Fell- 18. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—We drove off raiders in tlie neighborhood of Gavrelle. The Portuguese took a few prisoners in the iie.ghborhood of Xeuve Chapelle. The enemy suffered casualties in patrol encounters in the Messines seel or. The Admiralty reports:—Our aircraft dropped many bombs 011 the Uijtkerke aerodrome at noon on Sunday- One enemy aircraft was driven down. All ours returned. Ans. and X.Z. Cable Assoc. and Router. Received Feb. 2D, 12.55 a.m. London. Feb. lit. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We dispersed a raid eastwards of Epehv Hostile artillery Ims been active. Aeroplanes on Sunday dropped six tons of bombs on \arior.s targets, including aerodromes at lournai ami Lille and a dump near Courtrai. In severe air fighting we downed sixteen, while three of ours are missing. Me further raided yesternight aerodromes at Ghent and Tournni, and the railway station and__ sidings at Conlhms. Bursts were observed and a Jarge lire was started. Our squadrons to-dav raided in daylight, with excellent results, the barracks and railway station at Treves Tbeve raids were made despite the heaviest anti-aircraft gunlire. A French communique states: There was a second attack in the afternoon on positions south-west of the J3utte du Jfcsnil, it being broken >bv our fire before reaching our lines. 'The morning attack was made by three battalions, the enemy being everywhere repelled with heavy losses. Air activity continues. Wo dropped thirteen tons of explosives in the Jleta region, causing several fires and explosions.
