E. P. Hollands, Electrical Engineer, thanked the Council for the welcome extended him and the late electrical engineer (Mr W. J. Newton) for assistance. He had been busily engaged taking stock and intended to thoroughly overhaul the hydro plant. The intake, tunnel, gates and weir required special attention while the water was low. The weir was in a poor condition, and repairs to apron and decking would have to be carried out without delay. The Broadway lighting had been put in liand and lie hoped to show results before long. Next Saturday a gift Auction sale will lie conducted t'liat should receive the attention ot turners throughout the province. 'ihis is the gin aueuon appeal for raising £2WO lor the Wounded holdiers' l'linu In some weeks past quite a number of farmers and business men of this district have been busy completing arrangements, and latterly on Saturdays and Tuesdays have been homing meeting* so as to keep up with details. The success of the sale now seems assured, and the meeting on Saturday showed that all present were animated with a desire to show that the object had their hearty approval. And why should it riot be so? During the past years we have had many appeals, and to the credit of the public it must be said that the response has been good. The present appeal, however, is one that must be admitted by Ml as one deserving of the utmost sympathy and support. Prviou«l.\ there have been several efforts made on behalf ot many patriotic funds, but now the promoters of Saturday's sale hope to make this their one. and only appeal, and realising this all are urged to jnake it the success it deserves. Farmers in the district have contributed very well, and it is pleasing to record that the town collectors also report generous assistance from those who have been approached. There are probably some in town and country who may have been Overlooked by the canvassers, and, if so, this 5s an oversight, and if they have any contribution, whether cattle, land or cash, it will be gratefully acknowledged by the committee. With the stock in hand and Hie purchases to he made t-l'e entries should be very large, and it should b? understood that this is a genuine sale and each animal will go under the hammer and he sold to the highest bidder.

lotting away from the stock and coming to the cause—the wounded soldiers —it is abundantly patent to'all that the necessity for this fund exists. Maimed soldiers are no new sight to Stratford and district. They return having done their duty and, in sonic instances, un* fortunately permanently maimed. Others are, unfortunately, yet to make the journey from the Dominion to the trenches and ba?k again, and those who cannot do tlwir duty in khaki are reminded that there it* a duty owing to those who now require assistance. In the past Stratford and district have lone well in patriotic works, and there is nfj, reason to fear that at the close of Saturday's sale one may be able to proudly say: "Well done,' Stratford!" and that the amount raised will be beyond the sum expected. £2OOO The following furtlier contributions :tp to hand:— Cardiff .
