LOCAL BUTTER MARKET.
FACTORIES WITHDRAW AS LOCAL SUPPLIERS. OWING TO INJUSTICE OP PRICES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmcrston N'., Feb. 10. A representative meeting of dairy factory representatives unanimously passed the following resolution: That this meeting, representing dairy factories supplying tlie butter market in the Wellington province, lias decided (since all efforts have failed to establish an equalisation fund to bring the factories supplying the local market to the same level as tin' exporting factories), that our factories withdraw from the local market on February 28. Speakers at the meeting expressed the opinion that the Government had failed absolutely to do justice to. tile factories supplying the local market It was insisted that equalisation should have been established at the time the Imperial Government bought New Zealand butter, out of which should be paid any profits above the local price arising from the sale of butter in the United Kingdom. It was represented that repeated representations to Mr. Massey had been ignored, so that factories must take the matter into their own hands. STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. SUPPLIES AND PRICES NOT TO BE ALTERED. ' , Wellington, Feb. in. In reference to the resolution adopted by representatives of the dairy factories at tlit meeting at Palmerston North, that they will withdraw from supplying the local market on the 28th inst, the Prime Minister stated to-day /hat the local market will not be allowed to go bare, nor will the present prices be increased.
