German submariners boarded boats containing the Ceferino's rescued, and landed them on the island of Hierfo. They demanded the delivery of two. Germans domiciled in the town. The Mayor replied that they were interned at Teneriffe. The Mayor and another official were then conveyed aboard the submarine as hostages, while the Germans telegraphed to Tenerille that they would be liberated when the internment was confirmed. Italian official; Arrivals, 487; sailings, 431; sinkings, four steamers over 1500 tons and three sailers under 100 tons; one sailer was damaged. NORWEGIAN LOSSES. Received Feb. 15, 8.30 p.m. Christiania, Feb. 15. Of the Norwegian merchant tonnage, over a million tons have been lost owing to the war. 883 seamen were drowned. Fifty-three Norwegian ships, with crews numbering over seven hundred, are posted' as missing. About two-thirds of the latter are war losses. SPANISH INDIGNATION. Received Feb. 15, 8.30 p.m. Madrid, Feb, 14. Replying to Spanish protests, Germany has offered to intern the Pola for the duration of the war. This is, the submarine which lied from Cadiz. The Spanish press indignantly denounces the offer as a burlesque, a mockery and an insult.
