It is estimated that there is about £IOI,OOO worth of cheese in'the Patea grading store at the present time. The library of the Polynesian Society, which up to the present iias been accommodated at the New Plymouth Technical College, is being transferred to the new quarters provided for it in the museum building which has been added to the Carnegie Library. At the opening of tiie new term at the New Plymouth Boys' High School, the roll number was 209, of whom 120 are boarders. When the school closed last year there were 106 boarders, out of a total of 240. Mary Sweeney, who failed to appear at the Magistrate's Court at New Plymouth, on Thursday, to answer 'a charge of using obscene language and two charges of assault, and for whose arrest a warrant was issued, was apprehended at Hawera and brought to New Plymouth yesterday. She will be brought before the magistrate this morning. Says the New Zealand Times of Thursday: Quite a stir was made in betting circles yesterday by a coup on the par. of the police, who collected several alleged bookmakers. It is understood that the charges against those apprehended had no connection with the Egmont meeting, but had a bearing on a receni meeting run in the same district. In consequence of the raid several wires received yesterday went for notthing. The Telegraph Department will benefit if the recipients do not. The heat of the past few days has been so oppressive that it is not surprising to learn that the temperature recorded at the Pukekura Park meteorological station was the highest registered for the past five years. On Tuesday the maximum temperature reached 85 degrees at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Only once in the ten years during which records have been kept at the park has such a high temperature been recorded, that being, on February 10, 1913. At the recent sessions of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth,. Mr. R. C. Hughes applied for probate of the will of the late Alice Blyth, of Deyon street, who died in 1910. The delay in the application was due to the fact that the will, which had been obtained from the Bank of New South Wales after the dentlv of Mrs. Blyth, had been lost or accidentally destroyed. Satisfactory evidence as to the contents of the will was given, and on the decisions in cases submitted to his Honor by Mr. Hughes, Mr. Justice Edwards, granted probate to Mr. Jonathan Blyth, sole executor and beneficiary. A meeting of the local Efficiency Board trustees was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs. T. Furlong (chairman), E. Whittle and F. J. Hill (secretary). After dealing with the correspondence from the commissioner's office, Wellington, the trustees proceeded to deal with local and district applications to tho board for assistance and advice on various matters incidental to military and farming interests. The board considered twenty cases, including applications for financial assistance, assistance on farms, and in connection'with tho affairs of soldiers who are on active service. Among the number were three female applicants. Olga Petrova appears for the last time at The Empire this evening in the tense dramatic story ''To the Death." Followers of this gifted star will vote this her best picture to date. ''To the Death" will also be showing at the matinee this afternoon.
