NOXIOUS WEEDS.
ACTION BY EG MONT COUNTY COUNCIL. At the Egmont County Council on Tuesday, the chairman moved that, under Section 147 of the I'ublic Works Act, gorse, sweet briai, blackberry, acacia, broom, fennell and overhanging boxthorn fences are hereby .icciared obstructions, and the engineer is instructed to have the same removed before 28th inst., the cost being charged tc tiie offending occupier, and the cleric is hereby authorised to sue ior the statutory penalty of £1 per day for each day' that the order to remove these obstructions remains unobeyed from the expiry of the "oticcThe chairman that the Council had been barking too long, and something must he done. Blackberries were becoming a serious „icnace. Cr O'Brien seconded. Cr. Green said that it was a scandal, the way the blackberry ivas growing along the coast at present. Cr. Sinclair said that the Council should keep its own reserves in order. The chairman stated that the Council would have to see that the rivers were kept clear of blackberry but this would be deferred. j The resolution was carried.
