THE PUBLIC HOSPITAL
To the Editor. Sir, —The New Plymouth Hospital is an institutioji of which we are justl ■ proud. The building is beautifully situated and thoroughly up-to-date. The. medical and nursing staff carry out their duties in a manner that leaves nothing t 0 be desired, and patients are unanimous in their praise of the treatment; they receive- The discipline and general conduct of the hospital is admirable, but I wish to draw attention to one- rule, viz., no smoking- is allowed in the wards. In normal times, perhaps,-ho exception can be taken to this, but there are at present in the institution a number, of returned soldiers who haye come from military hospitals in England where smoking is allowed and even considered beneficial. To them this rule may seem "a hard thing," and if anything can be done to make things easier and pleas(inter for these wounded boys surely it should have our first consideration.—l am, etc., ' FAGS.
