WEST COAST FORRESTS By TeJegrapu—Press Association. Greyinouth, Last Night. Practically all the/ sawmillers of the Giey and est,land counties were present or represented at Grcvmouth yesterday afternoon, at the invitation of the Canterbury Commissioner of the National Efficiency Board (Mr, J. A. Frostick), who made a special trip to the West Coast to inaugurate a 'landing committee of those interested to deal wtyh matters affecting the industry. The Commissioner indicated the subjects of national importance upon which the committee might advise tho board, such a? the remarcation of forest country into arsag to be reserved or otherwise, afforestation methods, securing i'le best results from the existing forests and the utilisation of waste products. A committee under the National Efficiency Board of seven fiwmillers was appointed. MESSAGE FROM SHACKLETON. Wellington, Last Night. The following has been received from Sir Ernest Shackleton:—"On this anniversary of my return to New Zealand from tho antarctic, I wish to let my friends and the public know that my memory of the great kindness shown to me in New Zealand are as vivid as when raised a year ago." SOLDIERS' CLUBS' INFLUENCE. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association waited upon ths Hon G. W. Russell with reference to his remarks regarding the proposed expenditure of large sums on permanent clubs for returned soldiers. The deputation expressed the opinion that, clubs exercised a good influence generally and assisted considerably in the repatriation of soldiers. The Hon. G. W. Russell said he would not himself give a decision in the matter, but would take the opinion of Cabinet. SEPARATION ALLOWANCES. Wellington, Last Night. Military General Orders state separation allowance for members of the Ne.v Zealand Expeditionary Force is payable from April 6th, 1917, to wives residing in United States.
