DISTRICT NEWS.

PU-KEXGAHU. (From Our Own Correspondent). The leaves of spring and summer of the trees and flowers growing in this valley are beginning to take on the sombre hue of autumn, and farmers have gathered in their hay and all root crops are well advanced, and generally a plentiful supply of food for next winter for all stock is anticipated. The milk supply for this season Jn most farms will probably show a reduction on last year's quantity. The contract for metalling the Waihapa road is very nearly completeH. and we soon hope to lhave a daily mail and motor service initiated, and last, but not least, the Daily News on the breakfast table (it is here already fairly early.) The creamery of the Stratford Dairy Company is now finished and the new cheese factory has been running over two months and is turning out a highgrade article, which speaks well for the capabilities of.the manager (Mr. Cooper), who is no doubt an expert at his work. Some exception is being taker at the directors of the Eltham Dairy Company in refusing to pay any supplier for milk received unless he first signs an open P.N. payable on demand for the amount of shares held by him. irrespective of such sharps being fully paid up or otherwise. J. am informed the company - now hold some £38,1)00 of I'.N.'s payable on demand. Many have signed the P.N's as there have been persistent unofficial rumors that anyone refusing to sign will soon lose more than the amount of the P.N. they are asked to sign. To my mind surih rumors are unfounded. Another aspect of the. matter. If a supplier's cheque is withheld, until Tie signs a P.X. for money for which he is not liable, and the PrNT- is signed under protest the law relating to "force majeure" may be applicable. Some have refused to siijji, and developments are awaited with interest.
