ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Feb. 9. The C.E.M.S- Club members, having secured sufficient support, have d'ecided to call tenders for the erection of club buildings, which will provide' for billiard, card, and supper rooms. As will be seen by advertisement, tenders addressed care of Manley and Towers will be received up till Monday, March 4, at 4 p.m. It should be understood that the club extends an open invitation to returned soldiers and visitors to accept membership privileges when in town. "This farmer, cleans his creek by ■damming it up for a time, and on releasing the water sluices his waterway, rej moving his rubbish, which finds its way Ito the property lower down. The latter thus gets the 'benefit' of the sluicing," remarked the engineer at to-day's meeting. This was in reply to a query regarding the condition of a creek which was being blocked. "Benzine is getting low. A firm have notified us that they expect a shipment of several thousand cases, but until they knew the actual amount of the consignment could not give the price to be charged," reported the county engineerMembers thought they should get about 250 cases, but not 'knowing anything definite as to price and quantity available, nothing was done in the matter. "Your Own" spent a few minutes at Taumata Park recently, and was agreeably surprised at the care and attention given to the grounds by the caretaker, Mr. Huich. The flower-be,ds were in the pink of condition, displaying a wealth of blooms pleasing to the eye and indicating that Eltham can foe made a beauty spot as well as any other Taranaki town. The sport arena that used to attract the crowds, to the chowng' carnivals, football, and cricket games looked very forlorn, sheep being required to keep the grass down. May the day soon arrive when the men at present in khaki will be nWe to stack his gun in the corner and "root" out his football togs or cricketing flannels.
