To the lulitor. Sir,—A troopship Y-.M.C-A, secretary writes that tiie men are so fond of clies* that the limited number of-sns on board were in constant use. There is ft distinct shortage of. chess.-sets, ,and v.'t find it impossible to obtain any in the shops, so that wc aiV.uiiable to meet the demand by the soldiers. We will be glad therefore, it yo -■ will place the matter before yoiu readers, many of whom, doubtless, have sets which are"hot greatly used, if at all. Jf anyone who can spare c-. set of chessmen with, or without board, will kindly send-it to the Y.ll Ci. National Headquarters, Baker's Buildings, Keatherston street, Wellington, it will be put on a '-troopship- to help relieve the monotony of the'long sea- voyage.
