FIRES.

PALMERSTON NORTH FLOUR MILL DAMAGED. At about 5.30 on Sunday morning the Manawatu Flour Mills, in Palmerstoii North, were discovered to be on fire, tlie seat of the outbreak being located on the top floor. The lire had a good hold, and eventually the flames broke through the flour. Water damaged a considerable fight in confining the outbreak to that portion of' the mill, and linally in overcoming it. The stocks at the mill included about 15,000 sacks of wheat and a few tons of flour. Water damage da considerable quantity of the wheat, estimated at between 3000 and 4000 sacks, whilst.the flour was also damaged. The plant and machinery fortunately escaped without damage, and the mill commenced operations next morning as usual. The total insurance on the mill and stock is £12,000, and Mr. McGill, therefore, considers his loss-will be a heavy am.
