Stock, a taxi driver, was committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of a cliild who was knocked dowu by his car on Christmas Eve. A BBOKMAKER FINED. Christchurch, Feb. 4. At the Magistrate's Court, Arthur Bradshaw was fined £5 on a charge that, being a bookmaker, he trespassed on the Riecarton Racecourse while a race meeting was being held. At 8.30 last night an outbreak of firo occurred in Staples and Co.'s boot factory, Ghuznee Street. The fire originated in the clicking room, which department and its contents wero badly damaged. The other portiosn of the building suffered from heat, water, and smoke. The contents of the building (vere insured for £12,000, the machinery for £3500, and the building for £ISOO.
