Mr. Justice Oenniston has resigned (lis scat on the Supreme Court bench, flie Hon. A. L. Herdman, who is to be appointed to the vacancy, has resigned his Beat in the House of Representatives. A Melbourne cable reports the death, after a long illness, of Mr. E, D. Ooben, a well-known New Zealand journalist and the founder of the New Zetland Rugby Union. Captain J. B. Hinc, M.P., has made a good recovery from his recent wounds, (ind is now on duty at Mosscar Camp on tho Suez Canal, some 80 miles from Cairo. Captain Hinc was wounded in the leg, in addition to the 3evere wound received in the chest. „

Mr. W. H. Eobertshaw, of Invercargill, who succeeds Mr. T. G. Hirst aa manager of the local branch of the Bank of Aurtralasia, arrives in Now Plymouth by the mail train to-night. Mr. Hirst, wlio has been appointed manager at Invereargill, will leave New Plymouth by the mail train on Saturday morning. PaltOn lias been re-appointed Trade Commissioner in New Zealand.—Press Association. - ! Yesterday, news was received of the sleath at the front from neuritis, on January 24, of Q.M.S. Heber Gordge, second son of Mr. W, L. Gordge, late of Vogeltown, and now residing at Hawera. Q.M.S. 11. Gordge, who was about 30 years 0 f age, was well and popularly known in the Okato district, where he took a keen interest in, sport, representing the local football club. He enlisted with the Main Body, but failed to pass the doctor. However, he got away with the (Ith Reinforcements and saw service Galiipoli, where he was present at the evacuation. He saw considerable service in France, being present at the Somine and other battles, going through without any injury. When last he wrote he stated that he had been advised o» his promotion to the position of quarter-master-sergeant, and hoped to obtain leave shortly.
