ELTHAM.

PRESENTATION TO MRS. BARNARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Feb. 4. Considerable interest was taken in the gathering hold in the town hall on Saturday to show recognition of the services of Mr. and Mrs. H. J Barnard, who ars leaving to take up duties in Wellington. The Mayor explained the reasons why they had assembled, and then called upon the member, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, to address the gathering. Mr. Wilkinson, whilst expressing regret at losing Mr. and Mrs. Barnard, expressed the pleasure of the town and district at the groat assistance and leadership shown by Mrs. Barnard in patriotic work. It was largely the result of her enthusiasm and persistence that Eltham had been able to raise the £7OO for the motor ambulance car The lady had also shcjwn good results in connection with the Belgian / Sewing Guild and Soldiers' Comforts' Fund. Tliese ladies., led by Mrs. Barnard, had put in a tremendous amount of work, and it was very gratifying to observe Miat many letters of grateful thanks had been received from soldiers at the front. He also referred to the fact that the good feeling existing Ibr the parents and family was shown by no less than 275 having contributed to the fund.

Mr. I?. Parrott, secretary to the fund, presented Mrs. Barnard with the illuminated address. :He was generous in his praise of Mr. Barnard's abilities as a man and Mrs. Barnard's efforts on behalf of patriotic work. Mr B. Dawes (Rawhitiroa) also expresed appreciation of Mr. Barnard's work as secretary of the Eltham Dairy Company for many years, and wished | Mr. and Mrs. Barnard and family every I goo ' wish for the future. In th<r absence of Mr. Barnard, who : was in Wellington, the duty of replying on behalf of Mrs. Barnard was in the capable hands 0 f Mr. I, B. Grimstone, who thanked all subscribers for their generous support in the presentation, and the many kind expressions of appreciation of their (Mr. and Mrs. Barnard's) work.
