Mr. J. B. Richards slated that a number of reports had come to hand. So far they had received very good promises of support, whilst the amounts to hand already were very enepuraging to the canvassers. Isolated cases of refusal liad been met by canvassers, but he was glad to say that in some instances, on further consideration, these refusals liad i;cen turned into gifts. It was with the canvassers that the success of the appeal would mainly lie. Up to the present £IOO had been received in hard cash, whilst quite a large quantity of stock had come to hand. Toko r,oad had violded goods to the value of £4OO. .Mr. S! Pitt said they should see that ;11l the canvassers were carrying out Uicir duties, 110 thought someone should move round and see iiow things were •jetting on Time was getting short, and several reports had to come in yet. They might find that several of the farmers selected for various r#ads were 100 busy to give this matter attention. They had mapped out plenty of roads, •in<f they should sec if all these were being canvassed. The chairman then read out a list of roads that have been completely canvassed, and stated that other reports were expected during the week. Mr. F. Marlell stated that the canvassers in the country who had completed their work )iad been very thorough, waiitng on all farmers, and he wanted to know what was being done in town.
Mr. Malone raid they recognised they would be wasting time calling on a working man with a family, but they coiiM depend upon Hie town canvassers waiting upon all those whom they thought could assist with donations. Mr. W. H. Young spoke in similar strain.
