NEW TYPE OF DESTROYERS. 300 TO BE READY IN AUGUST. Received Feb. 2, 5.5 p.m. Washington, Feb. 1. Mr. Daniels (Naval Secretary) announced that America will have 300 destroyers of a new type ready in August by utilising the Ford owrks for the construction of standardised vessels 200 feet long, carrying two guns and having a record speed. LIMIT OF CONTROLLER'S TERM. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Reuter, Received Feb. 3, 5.5 p.m. New York, Feb. 1. The Senate's Commerce Committee has passed a vote limiting the Government controller's term to eighteen months after the war, but giving President Wilson power to fix the rates.
