ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Ellham, Feb. 2. Considerable interest -and enthusiasm lias been shown in the self-imposed task of the people of Elt'ham and district to show Mr. and Mrs. 11. J. Barnard that public appreciation of their patriotic ell'orts is not merely superficial. A fine response has been made and a goodly sum collected for the purpose, and this will be handed over to the departing Eltluimites, with an illuminated address setting forth the estimable qualities of the recipients and their family, also the public appreciation of the sterling work accomplished in patriotic matters. The Mayor (Mr. T. B. Crump) and Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., will be the principal speakers at the presentation which will be made to-uay. The Church of England Men's Club have held their annual meeting. This club has filled a want long apparent, and has grown to quite a large membership. Much (if not ne'arly.all) of this success may be attributed 1 to Mr. Harvey, who looks after the secretarial duties. He is endowed with plenty of energy and enthusiasm, but now, with things shaping nicely for the construction of a new building, he finds it impossible to continue in office. He fully deserved all the good things saM of his work, and goes out of harness knowing he has done his best and that his efforts are heartily appreciated by all concerned. Mr. Reg. Gibhlngs is the new secretary.
