Mr. Harry Hidcocks, of Auckland, composer and organist, has been appointed to the position of organist of the Catholic Cathedral, Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. 6. McLeod returned last night from a month's holiday, which has mostly been spent motoring in the Wairarapa, Manawatu and Wellington districts. The funeral of the late Hal Goodacre, which took place yesterday at Te Henui cemetery, was attended by a large and representative gathering of citizens, who paid their last respectß to the deceased. The ceremony at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Seivewright (Baptist), assisted by the Rev. Blundcll (Presbyterian), whilst the Rev. W. Drew, who was associated with deceased for very many years as pastor of the Eaptist Church, of which deceased was a member, gave a brief address. The hospital and- progress report published yesterday contains the names of the following Taranaki men:—Removed from the seriously ill list: Private T. J. Surgenor (Manaia). Severe cases: Private F. Castle (Manaia), M. J. McKenna, V. L. Warner. Not severe caßes: Privates M. Bowler (New Plymouth), W. Bradahaw (Hawera), E. H. Finnerty, A, H. George, E. A. Johnson (Patea), V. Kemp, L. .T. Lealand (New Plymouth), J. O'Hara and R. 0. Thomson. The Rev. E. C. Cook, late curate of St. Mary's Church, who loft with the 20th Reinforcements as a private in the ambulance section, i 3 reported killed in action. A few, months ago he was "gassed," but a few weeks afterwards he was again in the field. The late Mr. Cook received his training at St. John's College, Auckland, and before coming to New Plymouth acted as curate to the Church or the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland. He was a very fine, manly type of clergyman, and a zealous worker in the cause of the church. Ho took a prominent part in the Boy Scout movement, and in order to pass the' medical test for service overseas underwent an operation at the local hospital. Deceased, who was only 26 years of age, was a son of Mr. H. G. Cook, of Whangarci, who lost another son at Gallipoli. Sincere sympathy will be felt in New Plymouth for the relatives in the loss of a son who was every inch a man and a patriot.
