Leversedge, manager of tin; Bank of New .South Wales, who has earned well-deserved promotion in being appointed manager of the bank at Timaru. The Mayor presided, and in the course of his remarks stated that Mr Leversedge had ever proved himself a "sport" during the time he was assoeiated with the bowling club in Stratford. Naturally they were very sorry to lose him, but all were pleased to learn that this meant promotion. In business matters all had found Mr. Leversedge ever ready to give his best, and what more could a man expect? On the bowling green lie was always a welcome figure. They had gathered that evening to commemorate the many kindnesses and consideration they had received from his comradeship, and to present him with a case of cutlery, and trusted that his relations in Timaru (business and recreation) would be as pleasant as they had been in Stratford. Messrs P. Skoglund (town clerk), P. C. Fookcs (borough solicitor) and H. (7. Hartley (National Bank) also paid tribute to Mr. Leversedge's worth. Mr. Leversedge, in acknowledging the gift, thanked all for the hatdsome token of appreciation of his work in Stratford. He had ever striven to do his best, and was sorry to leave such a wide circle of friends. He had many pleasant recollections of play on the bowling green I here, and hoped the club would ever have a good record, and members a large meas- [ lire of prosperity. Several other toasts were honored, i after which the company, augmented by [ other friends, adjourned to other rooms, where a smoke concert was held. The Mayor also presided here, and several toasts were honored, those assisting in this direction being the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) and Messrs. W. McDonald S. Sharp, C. Martin, D. J. Malone, V. Tennant (who succeeds Mr. Leversedge), P. Phelan and J. Leversedge. Several songs, recitations, cornet solos, etc., made the evening pass very pleasantly, the following assisting: R. Cottier," J. S. Eowe, J. H. Thompson, D. and T. Wilson, J. Peattic, F. Foley, S. Sharp and J. Lister. Mr. J. H. Thompson was at the piano, and proved a very efficient accompanist. GENERAL. Mr. S. G. Stanton, postmaster, has received notice of his appointment as registrar of electors for Stratford district. Donations have been received by the Ladies' Patriotic Committee of £1 each from Mrs. R. Dingle and Mr. G. Curtis for the trench comforts fund. Whilst riding into town recently, Mr. Brown, of Hastie road, was thrown heavily, injuring an elbow, through the pony stumbling. After receiving medical treatment, the injured man had to go to Hawera to have an X-ray examination of the injury. The new cheese factory on Rugby road is expected to be completed this week. Mr. E. Penwardcn, at one time connected with the Midhirst Company, will be the manager, It is very frequently a perplexing dutj in trying to discover just what would please him for a birthday gift. Don't trouble any longer, but just hasten to C. E. James' warehouse, and if he prefers a pipe you will find the best varieties here, ditto smokes. If he likes literature choice reading will be found on thu shelves. If in need of military brushes, the shop for the purchase is C. E. James', and don't forget it.*
