COLLECTING WAR MONIES.
TWO MEN CONVICTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Njfcbt, At the police court to-day, Wflfivtt James Courtney and Wm. Waiter Qtmn were charged with collecting money for a war fund without a permit, and stealing 25s Gd belonging to the Soldiers' Club. The evidence showed that they went to the club and got a returned'-eol - dier to write out a heading for a subscription list. Courtney pleaded guilty, but asked for leniency, as he had'served at the front, and would return there. Dunn stated that he thought; the list was genuine. Courtney, who had previous convictions, was fined £lO for col- ' looting funds, and sentenced to seven days for theft. Dunn was fined £2 <y the first charge.
